The 12 Best Hostels in Prague

Last Updated: May 6, 2025 by Mick

Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, is a favourite destination for travellers from all around the globe. Known for its vibrant culture and rich history, the best hostels in Prague not only offer affordable accommodation but also serve as social hubs where people from different backgrounds meet. Whether you're a backpacker on a budget or a digital nomad looking for a temporary base, Prague's hostels provide a welcoming and dynamic environment.

The city's nightlife is another compelling reason to visit. From bustling beer gardens that serve the world-renowned Czech pilsner to the trendy clubs and bars scattered throughout the city, there's something to satisfy every taste. Prague's nightlife is diverse and lively, making it a perfect spot for those who want to experience the city after dark. The hostels in Prague often organize pub crawls and social events, helping guests to dive into the local scene and meet fellow travellers.

For nature lovers and those seeking a quieter day, Prague offers numerous beautiful parks and gardens where one can relax or enjoy a leisurely stroll. These green spaces provide a peaceful escape from the city's busy streets and are ideal spots for picnics, reading, or simply soaking up the sun. Prague has fast become one of the best digital nomad destinations in Europe. The city's affordability coupled with its high-speed internet, scenic cafés, and coworking spaces make it a haven for those looking to work remotely.

The variety of things to do in Prague is endless. From exploring the historic Charles Bridge and Prague Castle to visiting museums or attending cultural festivals, the city is packed with activities to enrich your travel experience. Whether you're staying for a week or a month, Prague’s hostels provide the perfect base to explore all that this magnificent city has to offer.

Prague's neighbourhoods are all very diverse. If you are a first-time visitor to Prague, it's best that you stay in the historic centre close to the main attractions. If you are a return visitor to Prague, you should also consider staying in a more local district that is still relatively close to the centre such as Vinohrady, Zizkov, or my personal favourite Holesovice.

Although Prague has gotten more expensive, especially over the last five years, it is still one of the cheapest European cities.

General Information on Hostels in Prague

Over the years, I stayed in many hostels in Prague and they were nearly all good experiences. The overall standard of hostels in Prague is very good but there are some substandard ones.

Prague has three super-sized hostels: The Czech Inn, Plus Prague, and A&O Prague Rhea. Many popular European hostel chains have at least one location in Prague including Plus, Safestay, and A&O Hostels and many hostels in Prague are among the best hostels in Europe.

Here are some of the things you should consider before booking a hostel in Prague.

Price: Prague has some of the lowest hostel prices for a major city in Western/Central Europe. However, hostel prices have increased dramatically over the last four years mainly because energy prices in Europe have risen a lot recently.

A bed in a dorm room starts at €14 per night (normally in large dorm rooms), but expect to pay between €30 to €45 per night to stay in a medium-sized dorm room (6 to 8 beds) at a top-rated hostel. The city tax was recently increased to €2 per night. This is normally included in the price.

Location: Prague is a large city but the public transport system of buses, trams, and the metro is one of the best in Europe. That said, it's best to stay in a central location close to the top sights and nightlife. Stare Mesto (Old Town), Nova Mesto (New Town), and Mala Strana (the area around the Castle) are the most central locations.

Public Transport: Prague has one of the best, cheapest, and most reliable metropolitan transport networks in Europe. The metro, trams, and buses run daily from 6 a.m. to 12 midnight. There are even night trams and buses.

Amenities/Services: Every hostel offers free Wi-Fi and some hostels include breakfast in the price, but every hostel is different because they target different types of travellers. If you want more specific services be sure to do your research to find the hostel that best meets your needs.

Staff: The majority of hostels in Prague have great staff. They are usually very friendly and will give you great recommendations for, bars, clubs and restaurants in Prague.
