Updated on: March 21, 2024 by Mick

Choosing a hostel in Bangkok that suits your needs during your stay in Bangkok can be a daunting task. My guide to the best hostels in Bangkok will assist you with this.

Bangkok, a city pulsating with energy and rich cultural heritage, offers an array of accommodation options for the discerning traveller. Among these, hostels in Bangkok stand out as an excellent choice for those seeking both value and a vibrant community experience.

Renowned for their unique blend of cultural immersion, affordability, and convenience, these hostels provide more than just a place to rest; they are a hub for adventure and exploration in the heart of Thailand.

These hostels are strategically located, often nestled near key attractions, transit points, and hidden local gems, allowing easy exploration of Bangkok's famous temples, bustling street markets, and lively nightlife. They range from the cosy and quaint to the modern and minimalist, catering to various tastes and preferences.

The facilities at hostels in Bangkok typically include essential amenities such as comfortable bedding, secure lockers, and reliable Wi-Fi, along with communal spaces that foster interaction and camaraderie among travellers from around the globe.

What sets the best hostels in Bangkok apart is their dedication to creating an authentic Thai experience. Many hostels organize tours, cultural events, and social gatherings, offering a deeper insight into the local way of life.

Whether you're a solo backpacker, a group of friends, or a digital nomad, these hostels provide not just a stay, but a memorable chapter in your travel story, all while being gentle on your budget.

The three main backpacker districts are Khao San Road, Sukhumvit, and Chinatown.

  1. Khao San Road is a pedestrian street with countless budget accommodation types, street food vendors, massage parlours, bars, and nightclubs.
  2. Sukhumvit area is very large but you will be able to get to the various sights on the Skytrain. Sukhumvit also has a massive nightlife scene that includes the infamous Soi Cowboy Street.
  3. The Chinatown district is also very large and it is covered by the MRT subway.

Best Hostels in Bangkok - Quick Answers

Quick Introduction to Hostels in Bangkok

I’ve visited Bangkok on 8 different occasions and have stayed in many different hostels in various districts in Bangkok. Bangkok has many different types of hostels, some are outstanding and some are not so good.

Here are a few things you should consider before booking a hostel in Bangkok:
  1. Price - Hostel prices in Bangkok can be as low as €3 per night for a bed in a dorm. But hostels are normally located far away from anything and you get bad service. That said some of the super cheap hostels can be good but you will be in a large dorm. Expect to pay €8 to €12 per night in a middle-sized dorm that’s in a good location.
  2. Location - Bangkok is a massive city (with a population of 14.6 million) so it’s best to stay in a central location. This way you will be close to the sights you want to see or else you will end out spending a minor fortune on taxis and tuk-tuks.
  3. Amenities/Services - Every hostel offers free Wi-Fi but no hostels offer a free breakfast. If you want more specific services be sure to do your research to find the hostel that best meets your needs.
  4. Staff - The majority of hostels in Bangkok have great staff and all the receptionists speak a decent level of English. They will give you great recommendations for restaurants, bars, and clubs, among other things. However, my advice is to study reviews on Hostelworld to ensure that the hostel you select has friendly and helpful employees, as rude or unhelpful staff might ruin your hostel experience and trip.
