The 18 Best Hostels in Spain

Last Updated: January 31, 2025 by Mick

Over the years I've stayed in many hostels in Spain. Some were exceptional or good and others were not so good. I compiled this guide on the best hostels in Spain to ensure that you only stay in the good hostels.

General Information on Hostels in Spain

Spanish hostels are among the best hostels in Europe and they usually have some extremely affordable dorm bed options. The more expensive the hostel is, the closer it is to the centre.

There are many things you should consider before booking a hostel in Spain:

Price - In bed in a dorm room starts at €10 per night (normally large dorm rooms) in the off-season, but expect to pay €20 to €40 per night in a medium-sized dorm room (6 to 10 beds) in the high season. As with all other major cities in Europe prices at the weekend tend to be 30% to 50% higher. Hostels in Madrid and Barcelona are slightly more expensive than regional cities such as Valencia, Malaga, Granada, and Seville.

Location & Transport - It's best to stay in a central location close to the top tourist attractions and nightlife.

Amenities/Services - Every hostel in Spain provides free Wi-Fi, and some even include breakfast in the price, but if you require more specialized services, do your research to find the hostel that best matches your requirements.

Staff - The majority of Spanish hostels have excellent staff. They are usually very friendly and will give you excellent recommendations for restaurants, bars, and clubs, among other things. However, my recommendation is to read reviews to ensure that the hostel you select has friendly and helpful staff, as rude or unhelpful staff might ruin your hostel experience.
